The rehabilitation of the Damen Court Apartments complex consisted of updating the apartment buildings, renovation of the community center, and a complete redesign of the centralized communal lawn/recreation area.
As part of the complex renovation the nine three-story apartment buildings will all receive new energy efficient windows, doors, and roofs. In addition, the complex will be brought up to current ADA standards which were not in use when the original buildings were completed in 1979. The existing abandoned tennis courts will be removed and replaced with community gathering spaces and sheltered by a light filtering wooden trellis.
The most extensive re-work at Damen Court will be the complete interior rehabilitation and exterior overclad of the community center. The existing community center building is an understated, brick veneered, single story structure. The new exterior expression will be an artful mixture of vertically oriented standing seam metal panel wrapping from the roof and horizontal hardwood planks. In re-envisioning the exterior, JGMA has more than doubled the amount of existing fenestration. Welcoming natural light will fill the building and community activities can be observed both inside and outside.
