The Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia is embarking on a transformation of their current campus into a mixed-use cultural and commercial center. JGMA took a unifying approach linking commercial, housing and hotel programs into a continuous, unique cultural lifestyle experience. By situating the largest programmatic component– commercial office space–at the south corner of the site and stacking to height limits, JGMA created a unique wedged tower form.
In a way, this move is contextual and places the building in dialogue with surrounding buildings of various scales. Housing at the east corner appropriately relates to adjacent residential areas while commercial program to the west activates an already lively, bustling boulevard. This central courtyard plaza is a key feature of the building, unifying the variety of programs and providing a calm, interior green sanctuary.
A prominent green roof angling toward the sun reclaims the ground below, providing cooling effects and efficient roof drainage for the building while advertising the University as a leader in sustainability.
Accounting for strong sun light from the north, JGMA also integrated a wood sun-shading system into the form of the building. At strategic locations, theses bands turn up vertically or pinch together to provide entry moments and window-shopping opportunities
