Westfield Old Orchard Mall is an open-air upscale shopping center in Skokie, Illinois. It is the third largest mall in Illinois. To increase revenue and create a statement structure that will attract retailers and consumers alike, JGMA has designed, in cooperation with Thornton Tomasetti Building Skin, a 1,300 square foot Glass Cube. The Cube will be available for retailers to lease during peak times and at times of new product launches. It will also host informal gatherings and will be the backdrop for summer concert series.
The Glass Cube is located at the intersection of three main promenades, functioning as a central node and landmark for the mall. As mall-goers approach from the north, the full height pivot glass doors draw people in. As consumers pass by the 20’-0” high glass walls on either side, they are drawn in by the clear visibility of products on display throughout the space. The Glass Cube opened summer 2013, bringing an exciting and unique shopping experience.
