O'Hare International Airport - Concourse D

PROJECT STORY:
Our design for O'Hare International Airport Concourse D. developed in collaboration with Ross Barney Architects, SOM, and Arup, is the first major component of the ORDNext program, the 19-gate concourse is scheduled for completion in late 2028. The project will reinforce Chicago and O'Hare Airport's global standing as leaders in aviation and design, setting a standard for similar projects worldwide. In support of the vision for the O’Hare Global Terminal. The design will be characterized by the built form and native landscapes of Chicago, providing spaces that create a distinctive Chicago experience. Keeping the needs of the airport and its users in mind, the design streamlines the movement of passengers, aircrafts, baggage, and goods throughout Concourse D and across the greater O’Hare campus.
The new Concourse D will provide approximately 2,776 feet of linear frontage, with gate space designed in a Multiple Aircraft Ramp System (MARS) configuration that allows flexible accommodation of regional jets, narrow-body, and a wide-body aircraft serving both international and domestic operations. The project includes a new multilevel concourse located southwest of Concourse C within the existing Terminal 1, connected by a two-level passenger link between Concourse C and Concourse D, along with boarding gate and hold room renovations at the southern end of Concourse C to establish a seamless connection to the new concourse.
The departures level features holdrooms, airline support space, concession space, restrooms, secure circulation, and airline passenger clubs/lounges. The mezzanine level supports sterile vertical circulation from each aircraft gate position to a sterile corridor network for international arriving flights, restrooms, and an airline business-class lounge accessible from the departures level. The new gates are designed to accommodate independent domestic and international departures and arrivals, providing operational flexibility while enhancing the passenger experience
