Summit Recreation Area

JGMA’s design for Summit’s Riverside Recreation Area focuses on the physical and emotional well-being of local residents within Summit, IL. Working closely with the Village of Summit, Metropolitan Planning Council, and the National Park Service to give the community access to the river, and provide more interaction with landscape. The design aims to improve the environmental quality of the site while continuing the development along the South Branch of the Chicago River.

The existing boat launch site is transformed into an area for community gathering. The plan incorporates educational recreation spaces, such as butterfly and firefly fields, to encourage youth to experience the existing nature and landscape.
