Casino in the City

Chicago, IL, United States

The Casino in the City is envisioned as a new entertainment district, including an event center, multiple restaurants and bars, a nightclub, and an observation deck. This unique riverfront location will provide the rare opportunity to attract business and leisure boat traffic in addition to water taxi riders and pedestrians.

The design will be led by JGMA and the construction will be led by BOWA marking the first time minority-owned firms have led a billion-dollar-plus development in Chicago.

Our plan for the 78 is comprised of four major diverse districts, each of which complement one another while adding to the overall creation of Chicago’s most mixed-use and inclusive neighborhood. These four precincts will be: An Urban Entertainment District along Roosevelt Road: Anchored by the proposed casino, hotel and recreational program, the district will form the northern anchor to the neighborhood, attracting tourists and Chicagoans alike through its rich network of indoor and outdoor public spaces and amenities.

A Residential District at the heart of the 78: Every great neighborhood needs a residential center. The 78 is no different. This precinct within the overall neighborhood will form the 78’s urban core.

An Education, Research and Innovation District along 15th Street: This precinct will complement the two districts to its north, bringing education and embedded innovation into all aspects of The 78. A Cultural Ribbon: The one-half-mile waterfront promenade along the Chicago River will form the southern anchor of the Chicago River experience, connecting the 78 and Ping Tom Park to the network of Chicago cultural institutions.

The Harbor Hall: The Harbor Hall is the main public gathering place of the 78’s northern district, and the intersection of the neighborhood’s green networks and Cultural Ribbon riverfront promenade. Always programmed, active and inclusive, it is the cultural heart of the neighborhood.
